Use
this measurement to determine the appropriate blade size. The length of the
appropriate sized blade should be approximately ¼- ½ inch (6-12 mm) less than
heel to toe boot sole length.
-
Skates (boot and blade) are a figure skater’s primary and most important piece of
equipment. The boot must fit properly and have an appropriate blade for you to
do your best.
-
The blade should be aligned and mounted properly. It should be rust free, nick free, and
properly sharpened.
-
Your skates must have the proper blade for your jump level and type of skating.
A skater working on double and triple
jumps will have a much different blade than those working on single jumps.
Those doing dance routines will need different blades than those doing
freestyle programs. To find the proper type of blade for your level and type of
skating you should talk to a professional (i.e. a figure skating coach) and/or
review the manufacturer’s web sites for their recommendations. Riedell has
their recommendations at the following site:

Here are some links to the better known blade companies. You will find that most of
these companies cater to all levels of skaters and provide recommendations on
their web site for which blade is appropriate for what level and type of
skating.
